Common Drywall Installation Questions
Do you use Greenboard?
Greenboard is not waterproof board, it is mold and moisture-resistant. This is beneficial for areas that are prone to a lot of moisture and humidity.
If there is a leak, the greenboard will break down like regular Sheetrock. A good paint job will protect your drywall installation, whether the drywall is a regular Sheetrock or greenboard.
Do you do tile board?
Generally no. The tile man prefers to do his own base for the tile.
Should I turn off my heat and air intake for that room?
If the intake is anywhere near the work site, it is a good idea to block that air intake so it won’t draw dust into the system.
Another good idea to block off any doorway to the existing house to minimize dust coming through the cracks around and the bottom of the door.
Would it save me money to hang my own Sheetrock and hire you to finish the drywall?
To save a little money, contact us first so we can give you free advice on how to hang the Sheetrock to make it easier for us to finish the drywall installation.
If you stock the job before you call me, you may get the wrong size board and stock the job incorrectly and may not hang the Sheetrock properly. These factors can affect our price.
What does it take to stock a job?
The builder or homeowner should be aware of sufficient entry points for stocking their job ie: for basements, we need to get the delivery trucks close enough on a gravel driveway that is not too steep.
If not, we may have to charge extra to walk the sheetrock around the house. For new construction, there needs to be an accessible window for the boom truck to load the second floor. Meaning, the window has to be at least 48″ tall and double-hung. The window must be within 30 ft away from where the boom truck is parked with no wires or tree limbs in the way on a semi-level gravel or paved surface.
If a boom truck is necessary for the job, refrain from pouring new concrete driveway before the drywall is installed. Boom trucks are very heavy and can crack new concrete.
Do you take credit cards?
What is an estimated time of completion?
It depends upon the size of the job. Generally, takes two weeks from when you stock the job to get the job hung and finished.
Is there going to be a big mess after you're done?
We do our best to keep the dust down, but there will always be residual dust. Mostly we haul off the Sheetrock scraps.
Once the finishing part is complete, we scrape the floors and sweep. Of course, the customer can feel free to sweep if we are not there.
Do I need to protect anything in the room?
When you come out to bid a job, is there a fee?
When should I think about getting drywall bids or scheduling a drywaller?
As soon as possible. Even before you break ground, it is good to speak with a drywall contractor to line him up. This is good for us to know so we can schedule your job correctly.
Are you insured and licensed?
We carry Workmans Comp and General Liability Insurance and there is no license needed for drywall installation.
Mr. Sheahan is very professional and efficient. His work is very good and I found his quotes to be fair as well.
